Charities
Redquartz Developments takes corporate responsibility very seriously. As such, we have committed ongoing support to a number of charities. This has been in the form of raising an agreed amount of funds on an annual basis, to our partners in the hotel business providing rooms for families in need of a break.

Barretstown
Barretstown is a specially designed camp, providing a programme of adventure, activities and fun - backed by the medical world - helping children with serious illness regain their confidence and self-esteem.
Redquartz has agreed a support programme spanning 5 years. Last year saw the launch of the Barretstown Ski Trip to Pragelato Ski Resort in Italy. Redquartz, through the Kelly family’s investment, is a shareholder in Pragelato. The event helped raise €150,000 net last year for Barretstown and is being repeated this year once again.
Biobank Ireland Trust
Biobank Ireland is promoting the development of a Hospital Biobank Network throughout the island of Ireland as a bridge between cancer research and care.
Biobank Ireland was founded 3 years ago by Professor Eoin Gaffney (St James's Hospital and Trinity College Dublin) and Ciaran Flanagan, managing director of marketing firm IDEA. Ciaran wanted to obtain business/philanthropic support for medical research. Irish research infrastructure needed improvement and biobanking was beginning to be recognised as essential for large scale research studies. It was therefore agreed to promote a Biobank Network for Ireland.
Paddy Kelly through Redquartz is a patron of Biobank Ireland.
Daisychain
Founded in 2005, The Daisychain Foundation supports families living with children with special needs. Over 25,000 families in Ireland are caring for a child with an intellectual or physical disability, with little opportunity for respite care for either the child or the carer.
In 2005, the “Time for You” programme was launched by patron of the foundation, The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson. The programme, in association with Choice Hotels Ireland and the National Parents and Siblings Alliance, offers over 1,000 complimentary hotel stays to families and carers around Ireland.
The link between The Daisychain Foundation and Choice Hotels Ireland is Frankie Whelehan – CEO of Choice Hotels Ireland and founder of the Daisychain Foundation. Redquartz is a shareholder of Choice Hotels Ireland.
Irish Township
There are currently 2.4 million families living in shacks or informal settlements across South Africa.
In 2002, Irish property developer Niall Mellon visited the Imizamo Yethu Township in Cape Town, South Africa. He was so moved by the horrendous living conditions he saw there, that he set up “The Niall Mellon Township Trust”, in order to help alleviate the plight of its residents.
Niall met with community leaders and undertook the replacement of 450 corrugated iron shacks with proper brick houses. Since then the project has grown and extended to other townships in the area. All houses are built by Irish volunteers who are asked to raise the funds before leaving Ireland for South Africa. It started with 150 volunteers, 2007, they’re looking for 1000!
Redquartz, through Paddy Kelly, supports Niall Mellon in his endeavours in South Africa to an agreed sum over 3 years.
Le Cheile
We also support Le Cheile, a support group raising awareness amongst the youth of Ireland that drugs are not the answer.
Réalta Foundation
There are over 30 million Sub-Saharan Africans with HIV/AIDS. If the roll-out of Anti-Retroviral Drugs (ARVs) is not successful, these will mostly die and the disease will continue to spread with the expected personal, social and economic cost.
The Réalta Global AIDS Foundation (“ Réalta”) was established in 2004 to support the prevention, treatment and care of poverty-related communicable diseases in sub-Saharan Africa.
Réalta has three key areas of activity: training, research and community projects. Redquartz has been working with Réalta over the past two years to raise funds for the construction of a HIV/AIDS centre in Mpigi, Uganda. This was successfully opened in November 2006 and currently treats 1,500 patients.
The Wellbeing Foundation
The Wellbeing Foundation was formed in 2006 to address the parlous state of the mental health services in Ireland, to carry out research and education programmes, and to deal with specific issues faced by those who find themselves having to use these services. Paddy Kelly is a patron of The Wellbeing Foundation.
